MEMBERS OF PEARL JAM, LINKIN PARK, & STP JOIN SUICIDE PREVENTION CAMPAIGN
Mike McCready and Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, as well as Stone Temple Pilots, will all participate in the second-annual suicide prevention and mental health awareness campaign. It will mark the launch of National Suicide Prevention Week. Shinoda, who lost his friend and bandmate Chester Bennington to suicide, said this: “In most parts of the world, suicide claims more lives than war, murder and natural disasters combined. I hope that sharing my personal story, in music and conversation, helps open up the door to new discussions and awareness about mental health.”
The initiative, called I’m Listening, was organized by the radio network, Entercom, and will feature a two-hour broadcast special that will air via the Radio.com app on September 9th. Anyone experiencing a crisis is encouraged to call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741-741.
Other participants include Alessia Cara, Third Eye Blind’s Stephan Jenkins. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars. The artists and celebrities will share personal stories during the special. The year-long campaign will include suicide prevention PSAs, on-air promos, and a designated website with materials and info focused on ending the stigma around mental health discussion.
